A new version of CinderElla, for ages 5+, premieres at The Bread & Roses Theatre in Clapham this August!

CinderElla

The traditional version of Cinderella never quite sat right with me. Why does marrying a Prince who cannot even remember her face (which, in the first place, he only took notice of after lots of magic had been applied to it) represent a happy end? Why is Cinderella so helpless and passive? Why are her stepmother and stepsisters nothing but ugly and evil? So, I thought: What if they got to be more than that? And what if Cinderella wanted to achieve more in life than get married, just because that is what tradition tells her to do?

So, I went ahead and reinvented her story for contemporary audiences in CinderElla - And Her Smelly Old Slipper!

Ella is devastated when shortly after her mother’s death her Papa remarries and before long passes away himself. She doesn't get along at all with her Step-Mama and stepsister Elizabeth-Victoria (Evi). With only her Fairy to confide in, Ella dreams of flying far, far away. When one day the average looking, twice divorced Prince Prince announces a ball to find his third wife, things get really out of a hand!

Come and (re-)discover Cinderella’s story as you have never seen it before, in a fun, exciting and modern retelling of the classic fairytale in which a girl's ultimate dream doesn't necessarily need to be to marry some Prince!
