Alumnae of RADA’s brand new post-graduate acting course, MA Theatre Lab, announce the formation of their company Hot Coals Theatre Ensemble, and its first production Storm in a Teacup.
Inspired by Chekhov’s Three Sisters, the production is devised and performed by members of Hot Coals and directed by Alice Robinson.
In an old, old house, there’s an old, old staircase and up that old, old staircase, there’s an old, old room, and in that old, old room are three old, OLD sisters.
This darkly comic and cartoon-like piece is a window into the quirky and tender world of three sisters as they fight the system to keep their independence.
In an old room where words have lost their place, physical comedy, walking sticks and false teeth come to life. No previous experience of Chekhov required!
Hot coals have created a moving and relevant piece, tackling head on the issues which will effect us all in our old age. As young performers playing women in their dotage they approach the material with sensitivity and a playful humor, inviting us to laugh both at them and ourselves whatever our age.
Storm in a teacup raises the issues of how we care for the elderly and asks important questions, whilst reminding us these three sisters are individuals with their own ideas and iron strength.
