SAG-AFTRA and Hollywood Studios Resume Contract Negotiations
After a nearly two-week break, contract negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and Hollywood’s major studios are set to resume. The decision to return to the bargaining table was initiated by the management side, bringing hope for a potential resolution.
SAG-AFTRA’s negotiating committee expressed gratitude to its members for their strength and solidarity, stating that their message has reached the CEOs. The negotiations are scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 24 at SAG-AFTRA Plaza, with executives from AMPTP member companies in attendance.
Internal pressure is mounting on SAG-AFTRA leadership as the strike enters its 100th day, urging them to find a resolution sooner rather than later. The strike has caused increased picketing and media warnings from union leaders. Actor George Clooney’s alternative plan for higher streaming residuals has added to the unrest among SAG-AFTRA’s top brass.
Talks were halted on October 11 due to significant gaps on key issues, leading to further tensions and frustration. The resumption of negotiations is crucial for the industry, as shooting new TV episodes or movies before the end of the year hangs in the balance.
It remains uncertain if the same executives who participated in the previous negotiations will be present for the new round. However, the negotiating committee reassured members that they are ready and determined to achieve a deal worthy of their sacrifice.
In the meantime, the committee urged members to ignore any speculation or rumors until official updates are released by SAG-AFTRA. The stakes are high, and both sides are hopeful that the resumption of negotiations will lead to a much-needed breakthrough for the industry and its workers.
