City Shorts

Chosen from over 40 submissions, City Shorts showcases four emerging writers’ work from across the capital and the South East. All four pieces have something different to say about women's lives in London today.

Fit For Work by Susan Harrison: A poignant and witty look at the relationship between two teenage girls, centred around the death of one of their fathers.
Anna by Wendy Thomson: A sharp satire on critical and stereotypical views of women's writing in theatre. A critic and an observer pass judgement on scenes of sex, relationships and babies, until the actors get their own back!
82 to North Finchley by Judy Upton: A highly comic and surprising account of a woman's journey on the No. 82 bus to find her missing girlfriend.
Dropping Stitches by Ness Lyons: Tensions rise in a South London knitting group; what is perfect parenting?

London Grey and Green was recently set up by Charlie Ely and Tessa Shrubsall, two Central School of Speech and Drama MA graduates. It is an ambitious, young theatre company interested in classics, forgotten classics and new writing.

CITY SHORTS and future London Grey and Green projects, set-out to stage pieces that reflect the environment around us, as well as working to change the current gender imbalance on the stage by providing many and varied roles for women. As with this project, we aim to continue creating and realising work with new writers and directors outside the company so that we may be infinitely inspired.
