Title: Two Men Arrested After High-Speed Chase and Statutory Theft Outside Capitol
Washington D.C. – Two men were apprehended yesterday after crashing a stolen car into a barricade outside the U.S. Capitol and leading police on a dramatic foot chase. During their arrest, law enforcement officers discovered two handguns, including one modified to function as a machine gun.
The incident took place when an officer attempted to conduct a routine traffic stop on the stolen vehicle. However, the driver reacted by rapidly accelerating, hurtling towards the Capitol, and eventually crashing into a barricade surrounding a parked US Capitol vehicle. The two suspects swiftly abandoned the stolen car on foot, attempting to evade capture.
Fortunately, the Capitol Police’s swift response led to the apprehension of both suspects near the Capitol Police headquarters. While searching the vicinity, officers made shocking discoveries. In addition to the stolen car, a Glock handgun with a 22-round extended magazine was found concealed inside the vehicle. Equally alarming, another Glock was discovered hidden in a nearby flowerbed, equipped with a “giggle switch” capable of transforming it into a fully automatic machine gun.
Federal authorities have since charged both individuals with multiple offenses, including carrying a pistol without a license, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and unlawful possession of a machine gun. The accused now face the consequences of their actions, with a legal process that will determine their fate.
This latest incident underscores the ongoing predicament of gun violence in the United States. In fact, the U.S. Capitol Police have already seized over 30 firearms this year alone. As a response to the alarming trend, the department has released pictures of the confiscated stolen car and the weapons on its website.
Despite the prompt actions of law enforcement, this incident serves as a reminder that gun violence remains an urgent issue facing our society. Authorities, lawmakers, and communities must work together to find solutions aimed at reducing such incidents moving forward.
