David F. Sandberg, the acclaimed director behind films such as “Annabelle: Creation” and “Shazam!”, has been confirmed as the director for the highly anticipated film adaptation of the popular PlayStation horror video game “Until Dawn”.
The screenplay is currently being crafted by Blair Butler, while Gary Dauberman, known for his work on “It: Chapter Two” and “The Nun”, is adding the finishing touches. Although the plot is being kept tightly under wraps, insiders claim that the film will serve as an “R-rated and terrifying love letter to the horror genre”.
“Until Dawn” is an immersive gaming experience that revolves around eight friends trapped on a remote mountain retreat. As they battle horrifying and life-threatening situations, they must confront their deepest fears in order to survive the night. The game’s gripping narrative, combined with its stunning motion-capture performances from stars like Rami Malek and Hayden Panettiere, earned it a spot on Variety’s prestigious 2021 list of games deserving movie adaptations.
The film is being produced as part of Gary Dauberman’s first look deal with Screen Gems and Sony. Sandberg, Lotta Losten, Roy Lee, Asad Qizilbash, and Carter Swan are also on board as producers. Qizilbash, the head of PlayStation Productions, expressed his excitement about the partnership with Sony Pictures and the opportunity to translate the beloved game onto the big screen.
Dan Primozic of Screen Gems successfully closed the rights for the film adaptation, sealing the deal for what is expected to be a chilling and unforgettable cinematic experience.
