As the NFL free agency period kicks off, teams are gearing up to make moves to improve their rosters for the upcoming season. The “legal tampering” period began today at noon ET, allowing teams to negotiate with agents of impending unrestricted free agents until Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.
During this 52-hour window, teams have the opportunity to contact certified agents to discuss potential contracts. Players without certified advisors can also communicate with team officials, excluding coaching staff, to negotiate deals.
Free agency officially begins on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET, marking the start of the new NFL league year. While negotiations can take place now, contracts cannot be signed until after free agency officially begins.
Yahoo Sports NFL writer Frank Schwab has compiled a list of the top free agents to watch, including top five players at each position. The league’s salary cap for this season is set at $255.4 million, a $30 million increase from last year.
For a comprehensive look at each team’s cap situation and spending needs, team-by-team NFL offseason primers are available. Additionally, eight players have received the non-exclusive franchise tag, including Tee Higgins, L’Jarius Sneed, Brian Burns, Justin Madubuike, Antoine Winfield, Josh Allen, Jaylon Johnson, and Michael Pittman Jr.
