Australian police are currently investigating a horrific stabbing spree that took place at a shopping mall in Sydney, resulting in the deaths of six individuals and injuring over a dozen others. The attacker, identified as Joel Cauchi, was shot and killed by police after they responded to the violent rampage.
According to Cauchi’s father, Andrew Cauchi, his son specifically targeted women during the attack due to his frustration at not having a girlfriend. Andrew Cauchi also revealed that his son had a history of mental illness and a fascination with knives, leading him to take combat grade knives away from Joel out of fear of violence.
CCTV footage from the scene showed Cauchi singling out and attacking women in the mall, as police ruled out terrorism as a motive for the attack. Among the victims were five women and one male security guard, with eight individuals still undergoing treatment in hospitals, including a 9-month-old baby.
Andrew Cauchi expressed his concerns for his safety and had previously contacted the police regarding his son’s behavior, labeling him as a “very sick boy.” The investigation is ongoing to determine why Joel Cauchi targeted women specifically and what led to the tragic events that unfolded at the Sydney shopping mall.
