The House of Representatives recently passed a $95 billion aid package, with a significant portion allocated to Ukraine and Israel. The bill, which received 311 votes in favor for Ukraine and 366 votes for Israel, was celebrated by lawmakers from both parties.
This aid package follows in the footsteps of the Senate, which previously passed aid for Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and border security. President Biden and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell commended the House for their bipartisan support in passing the foreign aid bills.
In addition to the aid for Ukraine and Israel, the House also voted on measures related to TikTok and Taiwan. The popular social media platform may be forced to sell its parent company or face a ban, while Taiwan is set to receive $8.12 billion in aid.
Speaker Mike Johnson faced opposition from some conservative members of the GOP but ultimately stood behind the aid package. The bills will now move to the Senate for approval before reaching President Biden’s desk for signing into law.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and McConnell are in favor of the foreign aid provisions and are working to swiftly advance the legislation. With support from both parties and key leaders, the aid package is on track to provide much-needed assistance to Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, and potentially impact the future of platforms like TikTok.
