Biman, the national airline of Bangladesh, is set to expand its fleet and retire its aging planes with the purchase of 10 Airbus A350 family aircraft. The rumors regarding Biman’s potential order for Airbus planes, particularly the A350 family, started circulating in May 2023.
French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed the order during his recent visit to Bangladesh after attending the G20 summit. In a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, President Macron announced the airline’s decision to acquire the Airbus A350 aircraft.
This purchase marks a significant milestone for Biman as it will be the first time the airline purchases Airbus planes. Biman has solely relied on Boeing planes since 2016, after retiring its last Airbus A310.
Currently, Biman’s fleet consists of 16 Boeing aircraft, including models from the 737, 777, and 787 families. With the addition of Airbus A350 planes, Biman aims to improve its operational efficiency and enhance passenger experience.
In addition to passenger planes, the order also includes two freighter variants of the A350F. This development will further bolster Bangladesh’s export capabilities, particularly for textile products. The A350F variants will allow Biman to transport goods more efficiently, supporting the country’s textile industry and contributing to economic growth.
Although the specific delivery timelines for the aircraft have not been disclosed to the public, it is known that the order is currently being finalized. Biman expects to announce the delivery schedule once all the necessary agreements have been made.
The acquisition of Airbus A350 planes signifies Biman’s commitment to modernize its fleet and keep up with the evolving aviation industry. This investment not only marks a significant milestone for Biman but also reflects the airline’s dedication to providing exceptional service to its passengers and contributing to the growth of Bangladesh’s economy.
As the order is finalized, Biman continues to look forward to the arrival of its new Airbus A350 aircraft, which will undoubtedly enhance its operations and support the country’s export capabilities.
