Apple has finally revealed the launch date for its highly anticipated spatial computing device, the Apple Vision Pro. The mixed reality headset will be available for purchase starting from Friday, February 2. With a starting price of $3,499, the device will initially be available in the U.S., with plans to expand to Canada and the United Kingdom later in the year.
Excitement is building as pre-orders for the device are set to begin on Friday, January 19. While Apple has yet to disclose all the configuration options, consumers can expect a range of features and capabilities. The main component of the system is the Vision Pro headset, which boasts advanced eye and hand-tracking technology, as well as ultra-high resolution displays for each eye. Additionally, the headset includes speakers and an EyeSight front-facing screen.
In terms of storage, the Vision Pro comes with a minimum of 256GB onboard storage for downloading applications and media. To ensure user comfort and customization, Apple provides two types of headbands – the Solo Knit Band and a Dual Loop Band. Furthermore, to enhance the immersive experience, the device comes with a Light Seal accessory to block external light. The headset also includes two Light Seal Cushions for added comfort and light-blocking capability, ensuring a snug fit around the face.
Apple has taken into account the wear and tear of daily use, as the device comes with a cover to protect the front glass from scratches and damage. Additionally, a polishing cloth is provided for users to easily clean the lenses and front glass without causing any scratches.
Portability has been a key consideration for Apple, as they have included an external battery pack with the Vision Pro. This allows for longer usage times and provides 2 hours of general use or 2.5 hours of 2D video playback on a single charge. To charge the battery pack and connect the headset to a power source, a USB-C power adapter and charging cable are included.
For users who wear glasses, Apple offers optional optical inserts that can be customized to each person’s vision requirements. These inserts, which attach magnetically to the Vision Pro lenses, will be available for purchase separately, starting at $99. It is important to note that a valid prescription will be required, and Apple has partnered with ZEISS to provide these inserts.
In addition, Apple has announced that it will be offering Vision Pro demonstrations at its U.S. retail stores on launch day. Sign-ups for these demonstrations will begin at 8:00 a.m. on February 2 on a first-come, first-served basis.
