Director Andrew Jarecki’s long-standing fascination with real estate heir Robert Durst has led to the creation of two acclaimed docuseries that have shed light on the dark and troubling past of the infamous figure.
Jarecki first explored Durst’s story in the 2015 HBO series “The Jinx,” which famously led to Durst’s arrest after he was caught on a hot mic admitting to various murders. Now, Jarecki returns with “The Jinx: Part Two,” which delves even deeper into Durst’s criminal activities, focusing on the trial for the murder of Susan Berman and uncovering new evidence.
The latest installment of the series covers Durst’s arrest and ultimate conviction in 2021 for Berman’s murder, as well as addressing criticisms about the timing of his arrest in relation to the release of the series. Jarecki also explores the individuals who aided Durst in his crimes over the years, consulting with prosecutor Lewin and providing evidence against Durst to law enforcement.
The final episodes of the series take a closer look at Durst’s second wife, Debrah Lee Charatan, and their tumultuous relationship. Jarecki discusses the possibility of adapting the docuseries into a narrative film or other media forms, but for now, he has other projects in the works.
With “The Jinx: Part Two,” Jarecki continues to unravel the complex web of lies and deceit that surround Robert Durst, offering viewers a chilling glimpse into the mind of a convicted murderer.
