Title: Baldur’s Gate 3 Developer Addresses Localisation Team Credits Issue
Larian Studios, the renowned developer behind the highly anticipated game Baldur’s Gate 3, has recently made headlines for its decision to rectify a credits oversight involving the localisation team. The studio announced plans to include all localisation staff in the game’s credits through a future patch.
The issue first came to light when it was discovered that only a fraction of the localisation team had been listed in the game’s credits. This discrepancy prompted Larian Studios to investigate the matter and determine the cause. The game developer stated that the incomplete credits were the result of inaccurate information provided by Altagram, the localisation firm it had partnered with for the project.
In response to the oversight, Larian Studios has demanded a comprehensive list of all localisation staff members from Altagram. The studio intends to update the credits immediately with the inclusion of the missing names in either the upcoming Hotfix 3 or Patch 1.
Highlighting the significance of the localisation team’s contribution, a staff member from the Spanish localisation team revealed that their work on Baldur’s Gate 3 spanned nearly four years and involved translating an astounding 2.5 million words. Notably, all translators involved in the project were duly credited except for those working for Altagram.
Unfortunately, this is not the first instance where staff members have been excluded from game credits. Previous cases, such as Persona 3 and 4 remasters, as well as the credits of Callisto Protocol, have also garnered attention for similar negligence. In light of these controversies, the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) took steps to address the issue, updating its game crediting policy in April 2023 to improve industry standards.
Larian Studios’ decision to rectify the credits oversight signals a commitment to recognizing and valuing the contributions of all team members involved in the creation of Baldur’s Gate 3. As fans eagerly anticipate the upcoming patch that will address this issue, it serves as a reminder of the importance of acknowledging the hard work and dedication of all individuals involved in the gaming industry.
