Electric car manufacturer Tesla has made some significant changes to its Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, including a price reduction and new features. The company has lowered the price of the FSD software in the US to $8,000 and in Canada to $11,000. In addition, Tesla has discontinued the $6,000 Enhanced Autopilot option and is offering upgrades to FSD for current owners with that package for $2,000.
However, Tesla’s driver assistance features have come under scrutiny from regulators, with FSD not yet meant to fully take over for a human driver at this stage. To address this, Tesla recently introduced a mandate requiring staff to provide buyers with a demonstration of FSD before they can take home their new cars.
In a move to make its products more accessible, Tesla also slashed the monthly cost of its FSD subscription from $199 to $99 and reduced the starting prices of its Model Y, X, and S vehicles by $2,000 each. This comes after the company reported a drop in vehicle deliveries for Q1 2024, falling short of expectations with an eight percent drop year-over-year.
These changes showcase Tesla’s commitment to improving its FSD technology and making its vehicles more affordable for consumers. With ongoing developments and updates, Tesla continues to lead the way in the electric vehicle industry.
