Ohio preschooler Maisie tragically passed away after a battle with a virus that caused her to have a stroke and bleeding in her brain. Initially, Maisie was thought to have a common cold, but she was later diagnosed with human metapneumovirus.
The young girl was admitted to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, where she was put in a medically induced coma. Despite multiple surgeries and procedures, Maisie’s condition continued to deteriorate rapidly.
Her mother, Christin Brigadier, kept friends and family updated on Maisie’s worsening health through social media. Eventually, Maisie’s parents, Christin and Patric, made the heartbreaking decision to take her off life support when it became clear that nothing more could be done.
To help with the expenses incurred during Maisie’s illness, her uncle organized a GoFundMe page. Unfortunately, Maisie’s battle with the virus came to a tragic end on Tuesday afternoon.
Human metapneumovirus is known to cause severe respiratory illness, particularly in children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Maisie’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of taking such illnesses seriously and seeking medical attention promptly.
