The Holocaust Survivor’s Foundation Condemns Director Jonathan Glazer’s Comments at Oscars
The Holocaust Survivor’s Foundation has issued a strong condemnation of director Jonathan Glazer’s comments at the recent Oscars. Foundation president David Schaecter criticized Glazer for using Auschwitz to criticize Israel, calling his remarks “morally indefensible.”
Schaecter, a Holocaust survivor himself, accused Glazer of equating Hamas’ brutality with Israel’s self-defense in his acceptance speech for Best International Feature Film. Glazer addressed the ongoing violence between Israel and Palestine, claiming that the Holocaust has been “hijacked by an occupation” and calling for resistance against dehumanization.
Schaecter strongly disagrees with Glazer, arguing that the director has no right to speak for the six million Jews who were killed in the Holocaust. He also expressed disappointment with Glazer’s film, “The Zone of Interest,” which focuses on Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss and his wife living near the concentration camp.
The foundation is urging Glazer to reconsider his statements and to refrain from using the Holocaust for political purposes. Schaecter emphasized the importance of remembering the atrocities of the Holocaust and honoring its victims with respect and sensitivity.
Female Arts will continue to monitor this developing story and provide updates on any further responses from Glazer or the Holocaust Survivor’s Foundation.
