Kremlin Insiders Disagree with Putin’s Claims Blaming Ukraine for Moscow Terror Attack
In the aftermath of a devastating terror attack at a rock concert in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin has been quick to point fingers at Ukraine. However, many Kremlin insiders are reportedly skeptical of Putin’s claims and believe there is no credible evidence linking Ukraine to the attack.
The attack, which claimed the lives of at least 137 people, was claimed by ISIS-K. Despite this, Putin initially blamed Ukraine for providing an escape route to the four suspects from Tajikistan who appeared in court. Belarusian President Lukashenko contradicted Putin’s claims, stating that the suspects had first attempted to enter Belarus before heading to the Ukraine-Russia border.
Although Putin and his loyalists continue to push the theory of Ukrainian involvement in the attack, sources reveal that behind closed doors, few top business and political figures support this narrative. According to Bloomberg, Putin’s inner circle harbors doubts about the Ukrainian connection but the Russian leader is using the theory to garner support for the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Experts suggest that Russia’s security services are aware of ISIS’s responsibility for the attack but are following Putin’s directive to prove Ukrainian or Western involvement. The director of Russia’s FSB has hinted at the involvement of Western special services and Ukraine without presenting any concrete evidence.
It remains to be seen how the situation will unfold as the investigation into the Moscow terror attack continues. Despite Putin’s efforts to link Ukraine to the tragedy, many are questioning the validity of these claims in the absence of genuine proof.
