Rafael Nadal Withdraws from BNP Paribas Open Due to Injury
22-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells just before his first-round match, citing his lack of readiness to compete at the highest level. Nadal, who has only played 12 official matches since the 2022 US Open due to a hip injury that required surgery, made the tough decision to bypass the tournament despite working hard and practicing in preparation.
Nadal missed most of last season and briefly returned to action in January before tearing a muscle near his hip, leading to his decision to skip the Australian Open. The Spaniard expressed his regret at not being able to participate in such an important event but prioritized his recovery and healing process.
Tournament director Tommy Haas expressed his disappointment at Nadal’s withdrawal but wished him well in his continued recovery and hopes to see him back in Indian Wells in the future. Lucky loser Sumit Nagal has replaced Nadal in the draw and will face Milos Raonic in the first round of the tournament.
Fans of Nadal will be eagerly awaiting his return to the court as he continues to work towards regaining full fitness and form.
