Apple fans may have to wait a bit longer for the highly anticipated iPad Pro and iPad Air refresh models. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the redesigned iPad Pros with Apple’s M3 chip and refreshed iPad Air models with M2 chips are now expected to arrive in early May, a delay from previous expectations of March or April.
The delay is reportedly due to complex new manufacturing techniques for the screens and finishing software development. The iPad Pro models will also be shifting to OLED display panels for the first time, along with redesigned accessories such as the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil.
While the iPad Air refresh will retain the current design, it will come with an M2 chip and introduce a larger-screened 12.9-inch variant option. Rumors suggest that the iPad Pro may come with a price hike, although specific pricing details have not been revealed.
Despite the exciting updates to the iPad Pro and iPad Air, there is no word on updates for other tablets in Apple’s lineup, some of which are at least a year or two old. Additionally, Apple’s M-series chips may be underutilized in the current iPad lineup due to limitations in multitasking and app availability.
Apple fans can also look forward to the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference keynote on June 10, where new operating system features may be announced to fully leverage the power of the newer chips in the updated iPads.
