Authorities in Vermont are warning residents about the dangers of hidden AirTags being used by criminals to track cars after a wave of reports from individuals who discovered the devices on their vehicles after road tripping to Canada.
The Vermont police have received numerous reports of AirTags being found on cars following trips to Canada, with authorities suspecting that these tracking devices are being used by criminals to monitor the movements of vehicles before eventually stealing them.
One of the ways in which users can identify these AirTags is through the Find My app, which alerts users to any unrecognized AirTags traveling with them. Vermont Intelligence Center cyber analyst have also warned of a potential car theft ring operating out of Montreal using AirTags to target individuals and steal cars for resale.
The Find My app includes features such as making the AirTag play a sound to help locate it in the car, and users are being urged to be vigilant and take advantage of these security measures to protect themselves against potential theft.
Despite the criminal activity surrounding the use of AirTags, the safety features of the device have proven effective in alerting users to the presence of tracking devices in their cars. Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and the security of their vehicles.
