Google is expanding its Discover feature on Android and iOS devices by adding the Air Quality Index (AQI). The new feature will be rolled out widely, appearing in the Google app and to the left of the home screen.
Currently, the Discover feature already displays mini cards for finance, sports, and weather. However, soon users will also be able to access air quality information. The AQI card will show the numerical AQI, a color-matching dot, location, and time of the reading.
To maintain visual consistency across both platforms, the Customize menu has been redesigned with checkboxes instead of switches. This change will ensure that the user experience is seamless on both Android and iOS devices.
Although the weather card in Discover already provides information on conditions and precipitation, it is now switching to a full-width design. This enhancement will offer users more comprehensive and detailed weather updates.
However, it is worth noting that the new AQI feature does not currently appear on Android tablets. Google is expected to address this limitation soon, ensuring that users on all Android devices can access air quality information.
Additionally, a small issue with blank cards in the app is expected to be addressed quickly by Google. This will ensure a smooth user experience and the seamless display of air quality information.
The addition of air quality information to Google Discover enhances the functionality of the feature by providing users with valuable environmental data. This expansion demonstrates Google’s commitment to delivering comprehensive and useful information to its users.
