A Celestial Spectacle: Millions Witness Total Solar Eclipse Across North America
The recent total solar eclipse mesmerized millions of spectators across Mexico, the United States, and Canada, as the moon moved between Earth and the sun, creating a once-in-a-lifetime celestial experience. From photographers capturing stunning images to families sharing the event together, the eclipse brought people together in awe and wonder.
Readers like Daniel McCartney and Mariel Williams shared their excitement and images of the eclipse from various locations, while Juan M. Soto Peña and his family in Tucson, Arizona, savored their first eclipse viewing experience in 20 years.
In Toronto, a group of young citizen scientists, known as Star Galactic, made the most of the cosmic event by launching a weather balloon 100,000 feet into the air to coincide with the eclipse. The team’s Project Eclipse experiment involved launching the balloon from Vaughan, Ontario, and successfully tracking its landing in North Conway, New Hampshire.
With the help of local businesses and residents in New Hampshire, the team retrieved the weather balloon and payload for analysis. Michael Goldstein and his friends, part of the Star Galactic group, are eager to learn more about the altitude reached by the balloon and utilize their experience from Project Eclipse to enhance their future launches.
The total solar eclipse brought together people of all ages and backgrounds to witness the beauty and wonder of our universe, making it a truly unforgettable event.
